I am Sawyer. A statement I’ll be enthusiastically understanding for the rest of my time here alongside people doing the same thing. Hmm, it looks like we both have the same goal. Let's work together! Yes friend, it's as simple as that.

What makes you, you? Believe me, we will only find out more and more everyday.

It must have all started when I was a baby being massaged by my mother on our warm clothes dryer, I grew up knowing touch as healing. One day I set my own devices aside and gave up, I listened to that little voice! To pursue something that went hand in hand with how I wanted to spend my days: gentle, aware, healing, and meditative. It was a decision for myself to be who I wanted and that required changing the world everyday. I see massage therapy as change that will hold us, and allow us to remember where we want to go. My goal in every session is for the both of us to leave with the embodiment of this koan in our hearts:

“May you feel vastness like an ocean. One that can handle anything, because your waves will never cease. You will sweep everything before you.”

Where I am:

As a massage therapist I am trained in many modalities such as deep tissue, thai, sports, and cupping. Most importantly, I’m trained in what you want from massage therapy and what you need as a human being. People come to me for my style of massage specifically, and find themselves meeting a new friend, a new place of rest, a new opportunity.

Where I am going:

I think in whatever we are doing, we must be onto something. We must have ambitions, a gleam in our eye, and always take what we know into different angles. When people share those ideas with me, it's inspiring, and we must stay inspired! So I'll tell you mine.

I am a musician, specifically one studying to be a piano teacher. I've played piano since I was four. My vision is to create environmental, surround sound stories into massage. Immersive sensory experiences like being on a beach, or in a rainforest, while the narrator speaks akin to a guided meditation. A story is unfolding inside you. Ocean waves like massage strokes are sweeping over you. You found a small cave here, its walls are cool to the touch- cold stones in your hands. Creating ambient background tracks for these stories is already my hobby, dear friends of mine will narrate them. It will be organic and heartfelt, and Restoring Balance has invited me here to learn more and more about how to get closer to this dream. Excited is an understatement!

What am I doing outside of massage and my self care:

You’ll find me just about every morning practicing Zazen at the Chapel Hill Zen Center with my Sangha. I have fun playing footbag with friends and enjoy the high skill curve nature of it. Often I’m making music with friends or by myself getting lost in a melody. I also sing a lot, singing heals the soul.
